๐Ÿ’ก GPA Tips

  • โ€ข GPA is the weighted average of all grades
  • โ€ข Credit hours determine the weight of each course
  • โ€ข Higher credit courses have more impact on GPA
  • โ€ข Most schools use a 4.0 scale in the US
  • โ€ข Many scholarships require a minimum GPA (usually 3.0+)
  • โ€ข GPA is calculated each semester and cumulatively

Formula

GPA = (Sum of (Grade Point ร— Credits)) รท Total Credits

Example: (4.0ร—4 + 3.0ร—3) รท (4+3) = 25 รท 7 = 3.57

How it works

Formula
GPA = (Sum of (Grade Point ร— Credit Hours)) รท Total Credit Hours

Grade Scale (4.0):
A = 4.0, A- = 3.7
B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B- = 2.7
C+ = 2.3, C = 2.0, C- = 1.7
D = 1.0, F = 0.0

Example (4 courses):
Math (A, 4 credits) = 4.0 ร— 4 = 16.0
Science (B, 3 credits) = 3.0 ร— 3 = 9.0
English (A-, 4 credits) = 3.7 ร— 4 = 14.8
History (B+, 3 credits) = 3.3 ร— 3 = 9.9

GPA = (16.0 + 9.0 + 14.8 + 9.9) รท 14 = 3.63

The GPA calculator computes your cumulative Grade Point Average based on course grades and credit hours. Add your courses with grades and credit hours to calculate your GPA. Supports both 4.0 (US) and 5.0 (International) grading scales.

Why this matters

GPA is essential for academic records, college applications, scholarship eligibility, and job applications. Understanding how GPA is calculated helps you set academic goals and track your progress. Many scholarships and graduate programs require a minimum GPA.
